A supportive tool for spending urges

Pause before you spend. Do you really need it?

Could you regret it tomorrow? Whether it is gambling, shopping, alcohol, or another urge, SpendPause helps you slow down and choose a next step without shame.

An early prototype—not a bank block, live crisis service, or substitute for professional care.

Pilot idea. We’re working toward nonprofit registration; SpendPause is not registered yet.

A small moment can make room for a choice

One pause. Three simple steps.

The first version is designed to be gentle and practical. You stay in charge of what you record and what happens next.

01

Notice the urge

Name what you are feeling or thinking of spending. An urge is information—not a failure.

02

Choose a pause

Set a short break that works for you. Optional reminders can bring you back when you asked.

03

Confirm what happened

If you skipped the purchase, mark it confirmed and see your personal total grow honestly.

A clearer picture, one entry at a time

See your spending. Explore what could change.

Add spending by hand, look back over recent days, and see a simple what-if forecast for the spending you choose to pause.

    A simple what-if

    If you paused similar spending

Based on the optional spending you chose to record in the last 7 days, here is what the same pace could add up to.

Values use the same currency you enter; this demo does not convert currencies.

    • Short term · 30 days—
    • Mid term · 6 months—
    • Long term · 12 months—

An illustrative what-if, not a prediction or promise of savings. It assumes the same spending pace and does not account for income, bills, changing needs, interest or unexpected costs. No bank data is used.

    Inspired by lived experience

    A pause I wish I’d had.

Over the years, the founder spent more than one million in total on gambling and other purchases they later regretted. SpendPause is shaped by that lived experience and aims to offer practical, non-judgmental support: a moment to pause, a clearer view of spending, and space to seek help. This prototype does not connect to banks or block transactions.

The sample amounts on this page are illustrative. They are not bank balances or guaranteed savings.

    Clear answers

    Questions you may have

SpendPause is still an idea we are shaping. Here is what this first concept does—and does not—promise.

Can SpendPause stop me from gambling?

No. This concept has no bank or card connection, so it cannot block transactions. It is a pause-and-reflect tool, not a replacement for bank controls, self-exclusion tools, or professional support.

Does it connect to my bank?

No. The early version uses information you choose to enter and does not ask for bank credentials.

How does it count money I kept?

Only after you confirm that you skipped a purchase. It is your own estimate—not a verified account balance.

    Help shape the next step

A more thoughtful way to pause starts with listening.

We are exploring the idea with people who understand impulsive spending. If you would like to hear about a future pilot, you can try the form.

We’ll keep you updated as the pilot grows and we develop what we’re building for you. Your email goes to the SpendPause team so we can contact you.
